WHAT TO EXPECT
Everything You Need to Know Before, During, and After Your Visit
Your First Chiropractic Visit Shouldn’t Feel Uncertain

Visiting a new chiropractor can come with plenty of questions. What will the examination involve? Will you be adjusted during your first appointment? Will treatment hurt? How many visits will you need?
At Better You Chiropractic and Wellness, we believe informed patients feel more comfortable and confident in their care.
We take the time to listen, thoroughly evaluate your concerns, explain our findings, and discuss your treatment options before beginning care. Throughout your visit, we’ll explain what we’re doing and tailor your treatment to your comfort level, individual needs, and goals.
No surprises. No one-size-fits-all care. No pressure to commit to unnecessary visits or long-term treatment plans.
BEFORE YOUR FIRST VISIT

1. Schedule Your Appointment
Getting started is simple.
Use our online booking system to select your preferred location, provider, service, and available appointment time. You may also call, text, or email us to get started.
New patient appointments are approximately 60 minutes, allowing enough time for a comprehensive consultation, examination, discussion of your findings, and appropriate treatment when indicated.
Same-day appointments may also be available when scheduling permits.
2. Complete Your New Patient Forms
After booking, your new patient intake forms will be sent to you electronically through Jane App, our secure patient management system.
Please complete your forms before arriving so your chiropractor has an opportunity to review your health history and concerns before your appointment.
Didn’t get a chance to finish your forms? That’s okay. Please arrive approximately 10 minutes early to complete paper forms before your scheduled appointment time.
If your forms are already complete, there is no need to arrive early.
3. Prepare for Your Visit
Please bring a photo ID and any relevant medical records, imaging reports, or other healthcare information you would like us to review.
We recommend wearing comfortable, nonrestrictive clothing that allows you to move freely. Athletic or workout clothing is ideal.
Most chiropractic and recovery treatments are performed while you remain fully clothed.
What to Bring
- Photo ID
- Relevant medical records, if available
- Previous imaging reports, if available
- Comfortable clothing
- Your questions and concerns
For auto accident injury appointments, please also have your attorney, adjuster, auto insurance, claim, and other requested accident information available.
DURING YOUR FIRST VISIT

4. Check In & Get Comfortable
Depending on your appointment location, you’ll be greeted by a member of our team or directly by your chiropractor.
We’ll confirm any necessary information and make sure you’re ready to begin your visit.
Our goal is to create a comfortable, welcoming experience from the moment you arrive.
5. Let’s Talk About You
Your first visit begins with a private consultation and detailed discussion about your health.
We’ll take time to learn about:
- Your current symptoms and concerns
- Previous injuries
- Your health history
- Your work and daily activities
- Your exercise or training routine
- Your lifestyle
- What makes your symptoms better or worse
- Your personal goals for care
Whether your goal is to reduce pain, recover from an injury, improve mobility, return to your sport, or simply move and feel better, we want to understand what matters to you.
Your goals help guide your care.
6. Comprehensive Chiropractic Evaluation
Next, your chiropractor will perform a detailed examination based on your specific concerns.
Your evaluation may include:
- Range of motion testing
- Postural assessment
- Functional and movement assessment
- Palpation
- Orthopedic testing
- Neurological testing
- Muscle testing
- Strength testing
Not every patient requires the exact same examination.
Testing is selected based on your health history, symptoms, and individual presentation.
Our goal is to better understand how your joints, muscles, and movement patterns may be contributing to the problem you’re experiencing.
7. We Explain Our Findings
We believe you deserve to understand what’s happening with your body.
Before beginning treatment, your chiropractor will discuss the findings of your examination and explain what may be contributing to your symptoms or movement concerns.
We’ll discuss your working diagnosis or clinical findings, treatment options, expected approach to care, and any relevant risks or benefits.
This is also your opportunity to ask questions.
We want you to understand what we’re recommending and why we’re recommending it.
If your examination identifies red flags or findings that require additional evaluation, treatment may be postponed.
When appropriate, we may recommend outside imaging, medical evaluation, or referral to another healthcare professional before beginning or continuing chiropractic care.
We do not perform X-rays in our offices. When imaging is appropriate, you will be referred to an outside imaging facility or healthcare provider.
8. Personalized Treatment May Begin
In most cases, treatment can begin during your first appointment when your examination does not reveal red flags or other concerns requiring additional evaluation.
Your care is personalized to your findings, goals, and comfort level.
Depending on your needs, your first treatment may include one or several services or modalities, such as:
- Chiropractic adjustments
- Myofascial release
- Assisted stretching
- Dynamic cupping therapy
- Heated muscle scraping and IASTM
- Therapeutic exercise
- Mobility-focused care
- Sports recovery modalities
We don’t automatically perform the same treatment on every patient.
Your chiropractor will explain what is being done throughout the visit and work within your comfort level.
Nervous About Being Adjusted?
That’s completely understandable—especially if this is your first chiropractic experience.
Please tell us about any concerns, fears, or previous experiences before treatment.
You can ask questions at any time, and you can always tell your chiropractor if there is an area you do not want adjusted or a technique you are uncomfortable with.
Your care should be collaborative, not something that simply happens to you.
You’ll know what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and what comes next.
AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

9. Aftercare & Home Recommendations
Before you leave, your chiropractor will discuss any appropriate aftercare recommendations.
Depending on your condition and treatment, this may include guidance regarding activity, exercise, training, mobility, or recovery.
When appropriate, stretches or therapeutic exercises may be demonstrated in the office so you understand how to perform them correctly at home.
Some temporary soreness or sensitivity can occur following chiropractic or soft tissue treatment, particularly after your first visit or when treating sensitive areas.
We’ll explain what you may reasonably expect based on the care you receive.
Please contact us if you have questions or experience unexpected or concerning symptoms following treatment.
10. Recommendations & Your Next Visit
Your chiropractor will verbally discuss recommendations for ongoing care based on your examination, response to treatment, and individual goals.
There is no predetermined number of visits that is right for every patient.
Your recommendations may change as you improve.
Whenever possible, we recommend scheduling your next appointment before leaving so you can select a time that works best for your schedule.
You may also schedule future appointments:
- Online
- By phone
- By text
- By email
Payment is collected at checkout following your appointment, and a receipt is automatically emailed to you.
For new patients, we may occasionally follow up after the first visit to see how you’re doing.
You are always welcome to contact our office with post-treatment questions or concerns.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT FOLLOW-UP VISITS

Your Care Evolves as You Do
Follow-up visits are generally approximately 30 minutes.
Our appointments are intentionally designed to allow time for more than a quick, adjustment-only visit.
At the beginning of each follow-up appointment, your chiropractor will ask about your response to previous treatment, changes in your symptoms, and any improvements or challenges you’ve noticed.
A brief reassessment helps us determine what you need that day.
Your treatment may then be modified based on your progress.
One visit may focus more heavily on chiropractic adjustments, while another may incorporate soft tissue therapy, stretching, therapeutic exercise, cupping, IASTM, or other recovery modalities.
We don’t simply repeat the same treatment because that’s what you received during your last appointment.
Your body, progress, and goals guide your care.
HOW MANY VISITS WILL I NEED?

There Is No One-Size-Fits-All Treatment Schedule
The honest answer is: it depends on you.
Your recommended frequency and duration of care may be influenced by:
- Your condition or injury
- How long you’ve experienced symptoms
- Your examination findings
- Your activity or training level
- Your personal goals
- Your response to treatment
We continually evaluate your progress and modify recommendations as your needs change.
Some patients complete a period of active treatment and are discharged from care. Others choose to transition to occasional, as-needed, recovery, or wellness-focused visits.
You will never be pressured into unnecessary visits, prepaid packages, or long-term treatment contracts.
We’ll give you our professional recommendations, explain our reasoning, and allow you to make informed decisions about your care.
Your care evolves as you do.
OUR APPROACH TO YOUR CARE

Thorough. Personalized. Comfortable.
We understand that every patient arrives with a different body, history, lifestyle, comfort level, and goal.
That’s why we don’t believe in rushing through your visit or applying the exact same treatment to everyone.
You can expect us to:
- Listen to your concerns.
- Perform a thorough evaluation.
- Explain our findings in a way you can understand.
- Discuss your options before treatment.
- Work within your comfort level.
- Use multiple services and modalities when appropriate.
- Modify your care as you progress.
- Respect your right to make informed decisions about your treatment.
Our goal is to create a chiropractic experience where you feel heard, informed, and confident in the care you receive.
